What if artificial intelligence were built by an open market instead of a handful of big labs? That is Bittensor’s bet, and TAO is the token that pays for it. This Bittensor price prediction looks at where our model expects TAO to trade over the coming weeks, years and decades — and what has to go right for the optimistic numbers to happen.

TAO is down about 70% from its March 2024 record after a rough autumn for AI tokens. It also went through its first halving in December 2025, which makes it one of the few coins outside Bitcoin with a hard 21 million cap and scheduled supply cuts. All forecasts below are algorithmic estimates from technical analysis and historical data.

Key takeaways
  • TAO has a Bitcoin-style 21M cap; the first halving on 14 December 2025 cut daily emission from about 7,200 to about 3,600 TAO.
  • About 128 subnets compete to supply AI services, and since February 2025 the market decides which subnets earn emissions.
  • Spot ETF filings exist (Grayscale GTAO, Bitwise), but none was confirmed trading as of November 2026.
  • TAO's 96% annualised volatility makes its model band one of the widest among large-cap coins.

How Bittensor Works, in Plain English

Before the numbers, it helps to know what TAO actually does, because its supply mechanics drive much of the long-term model.

Subnets: many AI markets in one network

Bittensor is split into “subnets.” Each subnet is a small competition for one kind of AI work — text generation, model training, data scraping, compute and so on. Miners supply the work, validators score it, and the best performers earn rewards.

Dynamic TAO

Since February 2025, an upgrade called Dynamic TAO (dTAO) lets the market decide how emissions are shared. Each subnet has its own “alpha” token, and stakers effectively vote with capital on which subnets deserve more TAO. The idea is to reward useful subnets and starve weak ones.

Fair launch and scarcity

Bittensor launched in January 2021 with no pre-mine, founded by Jacob Steeves and Ala Shaabana through the Opentensor Foundation. Supply follows a Bitcoin-like schedule: 21 million maximum, with emissions halving at supply milestones. Roughly 11.7 million TAO circulate today, so a large share is still to be mined — but at a slower pace than before December 2025.

Indicators are calculated from the last 365 daily closes at the latest data refresh. Short-term crypto moves are close to random; treat these as ranges, not calls.

The current setup is neutral in our model. TAO trades below its 50-day average, which has rolled over, and slightly below its 200-day average. RSI in the low 30s says selling pressure is heavy but not yet at a capitulation extreme.

The model’s average for the next month is $224.30, versus a current base of $221.69. With volatility this high, a 10–15% move in a single week would be unremarkable for TAO. If you trade it short term, sizing matters more than direction.

End-of-month estimates from our algorithmic model (trend, volatility, 200-day mean reversion, halving-cycle overlay). Ranges, not targets. NFA.

Month by month, the base case climbs steadily, from $233.20 in month three to $299.37 by month twelve. The minimum column is just as important: it shows that the model allows for TAO to trade meaningfully lower before any recovery.

Three things could bend this path. The first is the Grayscale ETF decision, which would add a new channel for regulated demand. The second is AI sentiment in general: when AI stocks wobble, AI tokens usually fall harder. The third is macro — the Fed raised rates in September 2026, and our Fed and Bitcoin analysis explains why tight policy hits high-beta assets first.

Bittensor price prediction 2026

The year is almost over, and the model’s 2026 average of $228.69 stays near the current price. The first anniversary of the halving arrives in December; historically, supply cuts matter more over many months than in the weeks around them.

Bittensor price prediction 2027

For 2027 the model’s base case is $318.53. This is the first full year in which the halved emission rate meets whatever demand the subnet economy can generate. Watch for subnet revenue, not just subnet count — the market has grown wary of “zombie subnets” that earn emissions without real users.

Bittensor price prediction 2028

The model’s strongest stretch starts here. The Bitcoin halving around April 2028 has historically marked the start of the most powerful phase for high-beta coins, and TAO’s cycle sensitivity is set well above Bitcoin’s. The 2028 average comes in at $482.15, or +117.5% versus today.

Bittensor price prediction 2029

2029 holds the model’s decade high, averaging $517.49. It is also the year Bittensor’s second halving is estimated to arrive, though the exact timing depends on how quickly supply milestones are reached. A Bitcoin cycle peak and a TAO supply cut overlapping would be a rare combination — but the timing is an estimate, not a schedule.

Bittensor Price Prediction 2030

Bear case · 2030
$129.64 -42%

Subnets fail to produce revenue beyond emissions, stake concentration erodes trust, and centralised AI labs keep winning on cost and quality. TAO trades as a fading AI-narrative token.

Base case · 2030
$396.27 +79%

Bittensor keeps growing its subnet economy, a spot ETF or similar product broadens access, and TAO follows the crypto cycle with an AI premium that comes and goes.

Bull case · 2030
$1,149 +418%

Several subnets become genuine businesses with paying customers, emissions halve again around 2029, and institutions treat TAO as the default way to hold decentralised AI.

In the model, 2030 is a cooling year after the 2028–2029 peak, so its average sits below 2029’s. Even so, the base case of $396.27 remains above today’s price in the current run. The bear card’s minimum of $129.64 is a reminder of how deep TAO’s drawdowns can go.

End-of-year model estimates. The further out, the wider and less reliable the range. Not financial advice.

TAO has one of the higher long-run growth inputs in our model, comparable to Solana’s, because it combines a hard cap with a large addressable theme. That is why the 2050 base case of $2,326 looks dramatic. The honest caveat: Bittensor is five years old. Whether decentralised AI marketplaces exist in recognisable form in 2050 is unknowable, and the model cannot price that uncertainty beyond widening its bands.

Bull and Bear Case for Bittensor

▲ Why the price could rise

  • Fixed supply: 21M cap with halvings; daily emission was cut to about 3,600 TAO in December 2025.
  • Market-driven emissions: Dynamic TAO lets capital flow to the most useful subnets.
  • ETF pipeline: Grayscale (GTAO) and Bitwise filings could open regulated access.
  • Category leader: TAO is the largest token in our coverage built purely for decentralised AI.

▼ Why the price could fall

  • Stake concentration: the Opentensor Foundation and large validators carry outsized influence.
  • Subnet quality: many subnets earn emissions without proven external demand.
  • Hard to value: rewards are paid in new tokens, so it is unclear how much real revenue backs the network.
  • Competition: centralised AI labs have far more capital, data and compute.

Emissions versus revenue

The most important question for TAO’s long-term price is simple to ask and hard to answer: how much of the network’s activity would survive if emissions stopped? Today, miners are paid mainly in newly issued TAO and subnet tokens. The halving reduces that subsidy, which tests whether subnets can attract paying users. If they can, the bull case strengthens. If not, the network shrinks.

Notable team departures

Subnet teams can leave as easily as they arrive. In 2026, analysts flagged the departure of Covenant, a major subnet team. One exit does not break the network, but it shows how mobile the talent base is.

The ETF angle

Spot ETFs changed the demand picture for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. A TAO product would be smaller, but TAO’s market is also much thinner. Our crypto ETF impact analysis looks at how inflows have affected other altcoins after launch.

TAO’s tradable history is short, so expect a limited-history notice in the yearly table. Key moments: TAO’s all-time low near $31 came in May 2023, before major exchange listings. The AI-token boom of early 2024 took it to a record near $758 on 7 March 2024.

Since then TAO has moved in wide swings, rallying with AI headlines and falling with risk-off markets. The December 2025 halving did not prevent a further decline in 2026 as the broader crypto market slid. For a sense of how AI tokens have moved as a group, see our AI crypto predictions page.

Bittensor vs. Other AI Crypto Tokens

AI tokens tend to rise and fall together, but they are not interchangeable. Knowing how TAO differs helps explain why the model treats it more generously than most of the group.

  • Render (RENDER) sells GPU rendering and compute time. Its demand is easy to understand, but it competes head-on with centralised cloud providers.
  • Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET) is built around autonomous agents, and it has been dealing with fallout from Ocean Protocol’s exit in October 2025.
  • NEAR Protocol is a general-purpose blockchain leaning into AI agents. It has a US spot ETF, which TAO still lacks.
  • Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) is a launchpad for AI-agent tokens, so its fortunes track speculative agent-token activity.

TAO’s distinguishing features are its fixed supply and its role as a marketplace rather than a single product. In practice that has made it the bellwether of the sector: when investors want broad exposure to “decentralised AI,” TAO is usually the first token they look at. The flip side is that it also takes the first hit when the theme falls out of favour.

Regulation and the US Political Backdrop

US policy matters for TAO mostly through access. The SEC’s generic listing standards from September 2025 are what made filings like Grayscale’s GTAO possible. A broader market-structure law, the CLARITY Act, stalled in the Senate in September 2026, and Democrats won both chambers in the 3 November 2026 midterms. That combination makes a quick legislative fix less likely in the near term. Our CLARITY Act analysis covers what a delay means for altcoins that hope to be treated as commodities rather than securities.

How We Model TAO

Like every page on this site, the TAO forecast blends a long-run growth assumption that decays over time, annualised volatility from the latest 365 daily closes, technical position (moving averages, RSI and mean reversion) and a Bitcoin halving-cycle overlay. TAO’s sensitivity to that cycle is set higher than Bitcoin’s. Our guide to how crypto price predictions work explains each input.

The model does not account for TAO’s own halving schedule separately, which is one reason the actual path may diverge around 2029. To run your own simulation on the same data, open the AI crypto price predictor.

Is Bittensor a Good Investment?

TAO is the purest large-cap bet on decentralised AI, with tokenomics that echo Bitcoin’s. That combination is why some long-term holders like it. It is also a young, concentrated and very volatile asset whose value depends on subnet economics nobody has fully proven yet.

If you choose to buy, treat it as a high-risk slice of a portfolio. Buying in stages can soften entry timing, and our crypto profit calculator shows what each model scenario would mean in dollar terms. It is also worth comparing TAO with the cycle path of Bitcoin, which still sets the tone for every altcoin. This page is not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Bittensor price prediction for 2030?

Our model gives TAO a 2030 range from a bearish minimum to a bullish maximum, with the base case shown live in the scenario cards above. Because TAO is highly volatile, the band is wide. The 2030 average sits below the model's 2029 peak, reflecting the expected post-halving cooldown in crypto markets.

What was the Bittensor halving?

On 14 December 2025 Bittensor cut its daily TAO emission roughly in half, from about 7,200 to about 3,600 TAO. Like Bitcoin, Bittensor has a 21 million maximum supply, and halvings are triggered by supply milestones rather than fixed dates. The next one is estimated for around 2029.

Is there a Bittensor ETF?

Grayscale filed an S-1 for a spot Bittensor trust (ticker GTAO) on 30 December 2025 and amended it in April 2026, and Bitwise filed a TAO strategy ETF. As of our latest check, no US spot TAO ETF was confirmed trading. Approval would be a potential catalyst but is not guaranteed.

Can TAO reach $1,000?

In our model, $1,000 sits within the bullish maximum for 2028 to 2030, not the base case. Reaching it would take a strong AI-crypto cycle, real revenue from subnets and fresh institutional demand, likely through an ETF. TAO's all-time high is about $758 from March 2024.

How is Bittensor different from other AI crypto tokens?

Most AI tokens fund one product, such as GPU rendering or an agent launchpad. Bittensor is a marketplace where around 128 subnets compete to supply different AI services, and the market decides which subnets earn TAO emissions. That makes it more of an AI-network index than a single-product bet.

Is Bittensor a good investment?

TAO combines scarce supply, a strong AI narrative and real technical ambition with heavy volatility, stake concentration and uncertain subnet economics. It suits only investors who can tolerate large drawdowns. Keep position sizes small and remember this page is an algorithmic estimate, not financial advice.
